Our nation just completed the celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was a visionary and activist for truth who believed in the American dream. The work that he did brought peace, racial harmony and change for many in this country.
Dr. King was a Christian was an American and I believe from evidence found in his speeches that he believed America had the potential to be great.
Dr. King said the following in a speech on February 15, 1964:
“The substance of the dream is expressed in some very familiar words found in the Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This is a dream.”
I love how Dr. King used the words of the Declaration of Independence to remind all Americans of the principles that this country was founded upon. It is this belief that all of us hold onto, it is this belief that has propelled this country through the annals of time and made us who we are today.
Like the founding fathers of our nation, Dr. King could not have had these beliefs without a strong faith and relationship with God.
Dr. King also made this statement: ““If any earthly institution or custom conflicts with God’s will, it is your Christian duty to oppose it. You must never allow the transitory, evanescent demands of man-made institutions to take precedence over the eternal demands of the Almighty God.”
I firmly believe that if Dr. King were alive today, he and President Trump would have gotten along very well. Why? Because they both understand and believe in what the founding fathers of this country wanted to accomplish. They both cannot sit idly by and let evil have its way.
I believe the reason that President Trump is so motivated to fight what’s right is that he cannot just sit and do nothing and let evil prevail. We need to have the same mindset and we must fight with God against evil.
Many people are trying to strip our heritage away from us. Many people are trying to divide us by ideology, culture, race, and theology. We must be wise in this hour and realize who the enemy is. We must see him for what he is doing. If he succeeds, it will be because we left our foundation. If the enemy succeeds it will be because we did not oppose it as Dr. King said.
